PSG eyeing Aurier

Paris Saint-Germain are considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur s Serge Aurier, according to .

Apparently, the Ligue 1 side are not entirely satisfied with the way 30-year-old Alessandro Florenzi, on loan from AS Roma, has been performing on the right defensive flank. As things stand, they have no intention of triggering the option to make the deal permanent for a fee believed to be set at €8 million, which means Florenzi is likely to return to the Italian capital at the end of the season. It also means PSG will be in need of a player for that position, particularly in case Colin Dagba leaves the club.

Aurier has so far played 26 games for Spurs this season and the Premier League side could decide to refuse negotiations, but his contract apparently contains a release…

Mertens targets Napoli goals record after beating Maradona haul

Dries Mertens has turned his attention to becoming Napoli s all-time leading goalscorer after leapfrogging Diego Maradona into second place.

Mertens, 32, scored twice to help Napoli achieve a valuable 3-2 victory over Salzburg in a Champions League encounter in Austria.

The double took his tally to 116 goals for the Italian club in all competitions, one more than Argentine great Maradona.

Marek Hamsik, now at Dalian Yifang in China, remains out in front on 121 but his lead will not last if Belgium international Mertens gets his way.

I m delighted with these two goals because it earns me a place in Napoli s record books, something I ve very proud of, the forward said after Wednesday s win.

I ve overtaken Diego, who s the all-time idol of this c…

Evergreen Ibrahimovic pens one-year contract at Milan

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will continue playing for Milan past the age of 41 after signing a one-year contract with the Rossoneri.

The Sweden international returned to San Siro in December 2019 after leaving Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy.

Ibrahimovic vowed he would end Milan s long wait for the Scudetto and subsequently delivered in the 2021-22 season as the Rossoneri won their first Serie A title in 11 years.

Injuries restricted the striker to just 12 appearances in all competitions last term, but only Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud (both 14) scored more goals than the 40-year-old s eight.

Ibrahimovic is expected to be out until January following an operation on his left knee, but Milan have rewarded the forward with a new contract to keep him at the c…

West Ham United want Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera

West Ham United are interested in signing Yangel Herrera from Manchester City in the summer transfer window, according to . It has been reported that Premier League champions City are willing to sell the midfielder for £20 million, and that London club West Ham want to secure his services.

Herrera has been on the books of City since 2017, but the Venezuela international has yet to make an appearance in the Premier League for Pep Guardiola’s side. The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has been out on loan at New York City, Huesca and Granada in recent seasons.

It us unlikely that Herrera will be able to establish himself in the City first team. It would make sense for the 23-year-old to leave the Citizens on a permanent basis and find a club which he can call home and …

Pochettino doesn´t regret shunning Madrid but expected more support from Spurs board

Mauricio Pochettino feels no regret over his decision to honour his Tottenham contract and shun Real Madrid in 2018, but did reveal frustration at a perceived lack of support from the Spurs board.

Pochettino spent five years with Spurs after joining from Southampton in 2014 and turned the team into Premier League top-four regulars and Champions League finalists.

But a difficult start to the 2019-20 season led to his dismissal in November last year, with Spurs bringing in Jose Mourinho as his replacement.

Pochettino previously had the opportunity to leave on his own terms in 2018, when Real Madrid attempted to hire him as Zinedine Zidane s successor, but he opted to stay put.

In the short term it proved a wise decision, as he went on to guide Spurs to th…

Prediction: Chelsea vs Fulham

Best odds: 8/13

Bookmaker:

In a rematch after Fulham s 2-1 victory at Craven Cottage three weeks ago, Chelsea are set to welcome the Cottagers to Stamford Bridge on Friday evening. Their clash will be the 21st of the season in the league for the hosts, and 22nd for the visitors, and they come into it from very interesting table positions.

Chelsea

In the final hours, or perhaps even minutes, of the January window, Chelsea broke the Premier League transfer record with the £107m (€120m) acquisition of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, not only beating Manchester City s £100m signing of Jack Grealish from 2021, but completely outshining two of their own star signings from this window, Joao Felix who came in on loan from Atletico Madrid, and Mykhaylo Mudrik, the wing…

Potter admits Silva ´fortunate´ to have avoided red card

Graham Potter admitted Chelsea were fortunate not to have Thiago Silva sent off in their late 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

Silva was caught in possession and deliberately handled the ball to prevent Jordan Ayew from breaking clean through on goal in Saturday s Premier League contest.

Palace, who were 1-0 up at that point through an early Odsonne Edouard goal, were furious that referee Chris Kavanagh only showed the 38-year-old defender a yellow card.

Patrick Vieira was himself cautioned by the official for refusing to let the matter pass, and opposite number Potter accepted Chelsea could have been a man light.

It was a 50-50 one we ve come out on the right side of I think, he said at his post-match news conference. I think it s one that we ve been fo…

Swansea ´squandered the chance´ to win South Wales derby, Williams acknowledges

Luke Williams feels Swansea City squandered the chance to take all three points in the South Wales derby, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cardiff City.

The Swans took a 10th-minute lead through academy graduate Liam Cullen, who volleyed home from close range after Ethan Horvath parried Ronald s initial effort.

However, they were pegged back 11 minutes from time when substitutes Ollie Tanner and Callum Robinson combined, with the latter ensuring a share of the spoils.

Tempers flared late on at the Swansea.com Stadium, with Cardiff boss Erol Bulut sent off for refusing to hand the ball back and his involvement in confrontations with Jay Fulton and Kyle Naughton.

Swansea had won five of the six previous league meetings between the sides on home soil, and …

We’ve just thrown it away – Steve Cooper frustrated as Forest lose at West Ham

Steve Cooper felt Nottingham Forest threw away the chance of a rare away win after going down 3-2 at West Ham.

Goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Elanga had put Forest into the lead after Lucas Paqueta fired the Hammers ahead in the third minute.

But late headers from Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek, both from James Ward-Prowse corners, condemned the visitors to another defeat.

“I think if we’d drawn 2-2, I’d have been disappointed,” Forest boss Cooper said.

“I can’t look past the goals we’ve given away. We gifted them a goal at the start, worked our way back into it and then to concede a corner after five seconds from kick-off and defend like we did is frustrating.

“The third goal is from our throw-in, it’s a corner again and we…
